Let us not be un-American

I was listening to Glen Beck this morning on the way to work and heard this call. I couldn't agree with Glen more. It's long, but a good read.

GLENN: 888-727-BECK, 888-727-BECK. Let's go to Georgia and Joe. Hello, Joe, you're on the Glenn Beck program.
CALLER: Hi, Glenn.
GLENN: How are you, Joe?
CALLER: Well, actually I'm not doing real well.
GLENN: Huh.
CALLER: And you are one of the reasons why I'm not doing real well this morning.
GLENN: What a surprise. That's why you are on the board first. We wanted to take your phone call. Go ahead.
CALLER: You are sending some real mixed signals and I'm kind of wondering -- listen, I've been listening to you for weeks now.
GLENN: For weeks.
CALLER: And I've been listening to you tear down Barack Obama and vent him and state all the reasons why we should not vote for him.
GLENN: Yes.
CALLER: Now you are saying that we need to make nice and accept him as our President.
GLENN: Yes.
CALLER: Until he does something wrong.
GLENN: Until what?
CALLER: Until he does something wrong, so to speak, or gives us a good reason, you know, not to stand behind him.
GLENN: Yes.
CALLER: I'm on the other side. He is not my President and I will not accept him as my President until he proves to me that the platform and all the issues and stuff that he has stated so far that he will not do those things.
GLENN: Well, how very un-American of you, Joe. Congratulations.
CALLER: No, I am an American and --
GLENN: No, no. No, Joe, how does America work? How does the election work? Explain that to me.
CALLER: Okay, well, let me -- okay. The election works by people electing who they want as their President.
GLENN: Yes. And when it is done, who is elected? The Democratic President or the Republican President? Or is it the American President?
CALLER: The one that gets elected.
GLENN: And what is he? Is he the Republican President or the Democratic President or is he the American President?
CALLER: He is the President once he is elected.
GLENN: He is the -- say it, Joe. He is the American President, right?
CALLER: He is the President of America. However, at this point I don't accept --
GLENN: Say the words, he is the American President.
CALLER: I can't accept him as the American President.
GLENN: Well, Joe, then you're un-American because this is the way our system works, and this is -- you are exactly the kind of person that caused so much trouble with George W. Bush. When the Supreme Court decided the way our system works, when the Supreme Court decided you count the way you are supposed to count the votes, you guys set this up, the Democrats were the ones who set it up. So you've got to play by those rules. When they counted the votes the way they were supposed to be counted and even when they counted them the way that they were trying to get them to count, you know, and change the rules, George Bush still won, they still said, "Well, he's not my President; he was selected, not elected. No, the facts are he was elected the President of the United States through the Supreme Court and then the New York Times -- that crazy -- I mean, it might as well be reading the National Review. That crazy newspaper went back and counted them again and Al Gore still lost. And yet people said he's not my President. Well, that was the problem. And Joe, you are now the person that you most likely railed against in 2000. Barack Obama won. He is now our President. We do not sacrifice our values. We are not required to now become a socialist. We're now not required to stand up and fight for the things that he believes in if we disagree, but we understand that he is the President of the United States.
So are you going to be a new kind of American that continues to separate us and continue to pull us apart?
CALLER: Let me ask you a question. How can you in good conscience accept him as President based on all the statements and so forth that he has made?
GLENN: Because, Joe, if I believe in our system, if I believe in our Constitution, which I map to, if I believe in it, this is the system that we created. Now, if you want to change the system, well, then that would put you kind of in the category that Barack Obama is in.
CALLER: Okay, you made a very good point. You mentioned the Constitution. Now then, one of the requirements based on the Constitution for him to be a candidate for the President or to be the President.
GLENN: If you go to the birth certificate thing, I think my head's going to explode.
CALLER: I am, but I understand what you're saying. It's a moot point.
GLENN: Joe, you are this close to getting the first gump of this new presidency.
CALLER: All I'm trying to say is hypothetically --
GLENN: Let's not talk hypothetically. Please, I know this is the -- I know this is the position where we have the argument against the idiot but please don't make it this easy.
CALLER: No, no. All I'm saying is you have basically said that even if his birth -- just for the sake of argument --
GLENN: The birth certificate, Joe, went through the court system! It was rejected! Now let's move off the hearsay. Would we also like to talk to all the people that say the United States and George Bush killed all the people in the levees, that he was planning to blow up the levees? Let's move off the conspiracy theories! Let's talk about the facts, and the facts are, Joe, that he is the American President and anyone who doesn't accept him as the President of the United States is pure and simple un-American. That does not mean that you accept everything he does. That does not mean that you sell out your values. That doesn't mean that you don't fight for the Constitution and fight for what you believe in, but he is the President of the United States and if you believe in this system, then you are required, you are required to accept him as the President of the United States, period, and you support him in every way possible because we -- a house divided will not stand.
CALLER: Take a breath there, Glenn. The little veins are standing out on your forehead. Are you still with me?
GLENN: Oh, I'm with you, Joe.
CALLER: Okay, all right. You said that the courts rejected the birth certificate thing, correct? And so therefore it's a moot point. We need to move on.
GLENN: Get off my phone! I can't take somebody who keeps going back to the birth certificate! Oh!
I swear to you, I told my wife the other day, there's no place for us to go. There's no place for us to go. The people on the left hate my guts. The people on the right hate my guts. I'm an enemy to everybody on planet Earth. Why? Because I believe in the Constitution, because I'm not going to pick up arms against the guy who was rightfully elected the President of the United States because I say give the man the benefit of the doubt. Let the man rule and let's fight him the way Americans fight, in the ballot box, not on the streets, not through smears.
Look, we made good cases. We made the best case we could. The American people did not buy it. Great. We made the best case we could against Barack Obama but what we did wrong is we didn't make a good case because we didn't have a good candidate to make the case for what we are, to make the case for the conservative party, to make the case that we are free men, that we do not want to be -- have the shackles of government. Well, let's start making that case. That's the case that needs to be made, and nobody has made it! Let's make the case for who we are and for our Constitution and for freedom and for the rule of law.

CALLER: I can't believe you are trying to -- I can't believe you are trying to accept this man as our President. This man has a forged driver's license. He had a real estate license that's in question, and I believe most of his vaccinations are false!
